Global Warming Initiative
World Environment Day 2006, we planted 100 trees at the Mathare mental hospital with an exhibition at the Village Market which attracted over three hundred participants.This is a group of nature (environmentalist) activists and artistes started in 2005 in collaboration with Kikwetu Association and UNEP, during the World Environment Day when we planted 150 trees along Thika road.
Our Mission:
Our Mission is to promote the concept of Art & Environment, as a means to empower people towards becoming active agents of sustainable equitable development.Our Objective:
The main objective of the GWInitiative Artistes Network organization is to serve the global community through artistic works such as drama, dance, music, poetry and audiovisual with a view of enlightening the people on conservation of the environment hence development and empowerment of the youth and the disadvantaged people of slums and the marginalized communities.We conduct workshops that promote an understanding of the pivotal role played by communities towards changing attitudes on environmental issues and advocate for a partnership which will ensure a safer and more prosperous future through proper care and management of our precious environment.
Our activities:
- GWI Artistes Network focuses on art as a reflection of human activities .Consequently, we are involved in the following activities:
- Creating our own performances using different visual arts, dance, and live music like in WILBARO performance, to spread out our vision about environmental issues.
- Creating performances platform for events like Kipawa Sato, festivals and road shows to inform the society about the role of arts in the community. We also offer Dance, Music and Narrative workshops with our experienced artists to help upcoming artists to improve in their art.
- Tree planting and clean up exercises, incorporating general community outreach programme.
- We organize Workshop open to all local communities, professionals, conservationists, educators, economists, policy makers alike, to bring and share
